Pei Tong - First Look
Our Fight Against Dengue

On 28th July 2022, Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment, visited our school and kicked off the distribution of DEET-based mosquito repellent to students. During the visit, he urged students, parents, and caregivers to take urgent collective action in the fight against dengue.

With the increase in dengue cases around Singapore and our community, our school has also been stepping up measures to ensure our school remains a safe place for our students to learn and play.

We would like to encourage our students, parents and guardians to continue to remain vigilant and practise the Mozzie Wipeout ‘B-L-O-C-K’ steps:

  • Break up hardened soil
  • Lift and empty flowerpot plates
  • Overturn pails and wipe their rims
  • Change water in vases
  • Keep roof gutters clear and place BTI insecticide inside

Those staying in dengue cluster areas should take additional steps to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Preventing bites from an infected mosquito will mean fewer infected people subsequently, which in turn reduces the pool of virus for mosquitoes to transmit amongst the community. The protective steps are ‘Spray, Apply, Wear’:

  • Spray insecticide in dark corners around the house
  • Apply insect repellent regularly
  • Wear long-sleeve tops and long pants

Everyone, young and old, can play a part in breaking the cycle of transmission and protecting themselves and others.
