Values in Action
Overview
To achieve our desired CCE outcomes, we engage students in our Values-In-Action (VIA) programme, 'iCare.
This programme focuses on ‘3 As’: creating ‘Awareness,’ providing opportunities for students to take ‘Action’ in service, and fostering an ‘Attitude’ of giving back to the community.
Our iCare lessons are carried out using the C. A. RE. approach:
-
Conversation: Teacher-led discussion on the iCare experience
-
Action: Different ways that students can take action
-
REflection: Reflect on what has been done and what students can continue to do
Through 'iCare,' we hope our students will become more aware of community needs, explore ways to show care, and make a difference.
P1- iCare for my FAMILY
Everyday Responsibilities @ Home
Students learn to perform simple chores and show care for their family by helping at home and practising good habits.
P2- iCare for my SCHOOL
Appreciation of Non-teaching Staff
Students learn about the various roles within the school community, getting to know and appreciate the non-teaching staff as a way to show care for their school.
P3- iCare for my ENVIRONMENT (i)
Food Donation Drive (Food Bank SG)
Students show care for the environment by learning about food waste and participating in a Food Bank Donation Drive.
P4- iCare for my ENVIRONMENT (ii)
Save That Pen Campaign (savethatpen.org)
Students demonstrate care for the environment through a school-wide 'Save That Pen' campaign, encouraging classmates to reuse pens, donate them to students in need, and promote refilling as a sustainable option.
P5- iCare for the COMMUNITY (i)
Learning about Special Needs
Students show care for their community by learning about special needs. In collaboration with Genesis School for Special Education, they create art and learning materials for Genesis School students.
P6- iCare for the COMMUNITY (ii)
Learning about Seniors
Students show care for the elderly by learning about their issues. They contribute items for goodie bags and assist in packing them for distribution to seniors in partnership with Lions Befrienders. Additionally, some students help deliver the bags and engage with seniors at the activity centre.
