Tamil Department
Overview
Students learn Tamil through authentic experiences, with lessons themed around various real-life scenarios that allow them to apply the language skills and knowledge they have gained.
Storytelling
Students have the opportunity to stand before their peers to tell stories, coming up with creative ways to convey them. Some students make props, while others use puppets.
Learning about our culture
Each term, Primary 3 and Primary 4 students explore different aspects of Indian culture. In Term 1, students learn about Pongal, a harvest festival, and have the opportunity to see, touch, and smell the various ingredients used in preparing Pongal. In Term 2, they engage in traditional pot painting. In Term 3, students experience the tradition of eating on a banana leaf, learning about its benefits and the placement of various food items. Finally, in Term 4, they create vibrant Kolam designs, using colourful powders to decorate their patterns.
“I am a writer too!”
Primary 5 and 6 students experience creative writing workshops in various genres, such as poetry and short stories. These workshops help them develop expressive language skills, explore different writing styles, and build confidence in sharing their ideas and creativity.
Flipgrid for spoken interaction
Students use Flipgrid to speak about common topics related to their daily lives. This platform boosts their confidence and fosters bonding with their parents or guardians, as some tasks require their support.
