Music
Melody @ PeiTong
Melody @ Pei Tong offers diverse musical activities to enrich students' school life and make music an integral experience. The programme aims to foster an appreciation for music and a love of singing, building a foundation for lifelong engagement.
Music Programmes
Primary 1 and 2
Students embark on a musical journey through singing and playing percussion instruments, including resonating bells, xylophones, and unpitched percussion. They develop good singing habits and become more aware of pitch and rhythm through ensemble playing. The programme introduces a repertoire of songs from local and global cultures, taught through engaging activities and singing games.
Primary 3
With a foundation of strong singing voices, students then prepare for a musical performance—an interdisciplinary project that offers a platform for diverse talents to shine. They have opportunities to contribute by creating stage props and costumes. Students with a flair for drama play the main and supporting roles, while the entire cohort performs together as an ensemble.
Primary 4
Students deepen their ukulele skills, gaining the musical ability to express themselves. They learn to play chords and explore various strumming patterns, as well as reading chord diagrams, enabling interested students to continue learning new songs independently after the programme.
Primary 5
Students are trained in small ensemble groups, where they develop SEL competencies like self-awareness, relationship management, and responsible decision-making. They also learn to play songs by reading simple music scores. To deepen their musical knowledge, they explore forms and structures such as pop music, rondo, and theme and variations, equipping them for more collaborative group work in Primary 6.
Primary 6
Students are trained in basic music arrangement and accompaniment using GarageBand on iPads. Through digital music creation, they can explore playing various instruments, such as piano, guitar, strings, and drums, building their music-making skills. This platform encourages collaboration and gives students a taste of playing in a band. They also have opportunities to use instruments like the ukulele and xylophone to perform ensemble pieces with their group.
